The American Hospital Association has given Donald J. Babb, chief executive officer of Citizens Memorial Hospital, Bolivar, Mo., an award that recognizes small- or rural-hospital leaders who have improved healthcare delivery in their communities.
Babb, 56, is the 1997 recipient of the Shirley Ann Munroe Leadership Development award.
The only hospital in Bolivar, Citizens Memorial opened in 1982, but Babb came on the scene two years earlier to help lay the groundwork for the new facility. Under Babb's direction, the hospital and foundation have developed into an integrated delivery system. Besides the 74-bed hospital, the system has long-term-care facilities, hospices, a dozen physician clinics and an assortment of other services. Babb also is a member of the Missouri Hospital Association Board of Trustees.
