Your July 21 editorial cartoon (p. 24) hit the proverbial nail on the head. Hospitals are often seen by both the government and the public as fat crybabies with their hands in the cookie jar.
Many of us who work for not-for-profit organizations would like to think we're perceived differently, but I don't think that's the case. The fact that we don't pay taxes is not lost on the members of our communities. Charity care is a non-issue with the public.
Kudos to the cartoonist for an accurate although unflattering depiction. Our lobbying efforts have done nothing to enhance our image. We can do better.
