St. Catherine's Hospital, Kenosha, Wis., is talking about a possible sale to Wheaton (Ill.) Franciscan Services.
These latest talks follow the June breakdown in negotiations for a mergerlike partnership between 170-bed St. Catherine's and 115-bed Kenosha Hospital and Medical Center (July 7, p. 22). That deal had been in the planning stages for three years.
St. Catherine's and Wheaton are expected to work out a deal in two to three months.
Wheaton owns 12 hospitals and is affiliated with five others. It's sponsored by the Wheaton Franciscan Sisters.
"I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this works," said Eleanor Claus, president of the central Midwest region of Catholic Health Initiatives, which owns St. Catherine's.
