We are disappointed with Outliers' reaction to our selection of the name Agnesian HealthCare, based in Fond du Lac, Wis. ("The name game," June 30, p. 156).
Agnesian is not a contrived name as implied in your article. It refers to the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Agnes, the Catholic order that has sponsored St. Agnes Hospital for more than 100 years. Agnes, as in St. Agnes, is the root of Agnesian.
Upon our merger with Fond du Lac Regional Clinic and its multiple satellite offices, we made a commitment to develop a strong mission-driven, locally governed healthcare system. Agnesian HealthCare reflects both our well-respected heritage and our vision to continually provide quality healthcare services with respect and dignity to all in need. We are proud of our new name and its meaning to the communities we serve.
