Two Minnesota healthcare giants are discussing partnerships with other providers that would expand their Wisconsin operations.
They are eight-hospital Mayo Health System, headed by Rochester-based Mayo Clinic, and HealthPartners, a Bloomington-based HMO with a hospital in St. Paul, Minn.
Mayo is holding talks with 104-bed Bloomer (Wis.) Community Memorial Hospital about a "more formal working relationship," the nature of which wasn't disclosed. Bloomer is about 20 miles north of Eau Claire, where Mayo's Luther/Midelfort division is located.
There is no schedule for discussions. So far, Bloomer Community has agreed to build a clinic in Bloomer, which will be run by Midelfort Clinic.
HealthPartners is talking with 49-bed Hudson (Wis.) Medical Center about collaborating, a spokeswoman said. Again, the nature of such collaboration isn't defined yet, and no deadline for the talks has been set.
