Regarding Howard Jessamy's commentary in the May 5 issue ("Opening up to diversity," p. 64), there is another organization that should have been mentioned.
The Institute for Diversity in Health Management, based in Chicago and headed by Walter F. Johnson III, exists to increase the number of ethnic minorities in health services administration and to improve opportunities for professionals already in the healthcare field. In fact, MODERN HEALTHCARE Publisher Charles S. Lauer served as chairman of the board's development committee and spearheaded the endowment campaign.
The institute sponsors summer internships, financial assistance and residency/fellowship programs.
