BOSTON-A Boston-based regional healthcare network last week signed an agreement to establish a more collaborative relationship with Brookline, Mass.-based Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, a 1 million-enrollee HMO with a track record of cultivating clinical ties with providers. The deal with CareGroup, which includes Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, calls for creation of a joint medical management team to coordinate healthcare services provided und er the new relationship. In addition, patients in Harvard Pilgrim's Medicare risk program will be able to select doctors from CareGroup provider organizations, which also include Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge; New England Baptis t Hospital, Boston; Deaconess Waltham (Mass.) Hospital; Deaconess-Glover Hospital Corp., Needham; and Deaconess-Nashoba Hospital, Ayer. The agreement replaces pacts between Harvard Pilgrim and physician organizations associated wit h CareGroup, and it establishes relationships between the HMO and two CareGroup hospitals.
