INDIANAPOLIS-Clarian Health was chosen as the name of the $1 billion merger of Methodist Health Group, Indiana University Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. Clarian Health will be used as an umbrella identity with the facilities' existing names. The system is expected to begin operating Jan. 1. The name is derived from the Latin word for clear. The common spelling of clarion was altered "because the organization we are forming is unique," said Bill Loveday, president and chief executive officer.
OAK LAWN, Ill.-Christ Hospital and Medical Center took a giant step in its campaign to become a leading child-healthcare provider with the opening late last month of Hope Children's Hospital on its campus. The 60-bed, $25 million hospital is the first new children's hospital in the Chicago area in nearly 30 years. Christ moved its pediatrics department, which was spread over three floors, to the facility. Inpatient admissions are expected to remain at about 5,000 annually, but outpatient services will be expanded, a spokesman said. Christ, an 800-bed hospital, is part of Advocate Health Care system.
