Oct. 22: VHA hosts a satellite broadcast to explain to members its review of medical-surgical supply distribution. Prompted partly by service problems, VHA has been examining its system of authorized national distributors for several months, with an eye toward regional agreements. Any change the alliance of 1,100 hospitals makes will significantly affect the distribution market.
Oct. 3: Pharmaceutical wholesaler McKesson Corp. offers to buy the assets of its bankrupt competitor, FoxMeyer Drug Co. If the deal goes through McKesson will get about $750 million in assets for $680 million in cash and obligations.
Oct. 1: Allegiance Corp. began trading on the New York Stock Exchange, completing its spinoff from Baxter International. The company includes U.S. distribution, some manufactured products and custom surgical kits.
