MINNEAPOLIS-Allina Health System has bought nine clinics in the Twin Cities from a unit of United HealthCare Corp. for undisclosed terms. The move will allow Allina to consolidate the delivery of mental-health and substance-abuse services within its system. Previously, the United unit, United Behavioral Systems, was under contract for the services. It will continue to provide management services and consultation.
ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn.-HealthSystem Minnesota took ownership of a University of Minnesota family practice residency recently in what it termed "a third model for medical education." Traditionally residency programs are owned by universities, even if they are hospital-sponsored. Methodist Hospital, part of HealthSystem Minnesota, has been affiliated with the program for 20 years. Its 18 residents will continue to receive formal training from university faculty. The university also remains responsible for the program's accreditation.
