Officers of the University of Missouri Health Sciences Center in Columbia and Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Mo., say they're negotiating an affiliation.
Capital Region wants to be able to offer the university hospital's range of specialty services, while the university wants to be able to place its medical students and residents in a community hospital setting.
Capital Region was formed through the merger of Memorial Community Hospital and Still Regional Medical Center. It operates two campuses, of which Still is an osteopathic institution.
Last year the University of Missouri considered a proposal to do a joint venture with Tenet Healthcare Corp. but shelved the idea after community and faculty opposition mounted.
