MIAMI-Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp. has created a network called Company Care with its 60 Florida hospitals to bid for workers' compensation contracts. The network, which is the largest in the state, is Columbia's first effort to tap into the workers' compensation market, a spokesman said. Currently, hospitals bid on workers' compensation contracts with employers on an individual or regional basis.
DURHAM, N.C.-Duke University has named Michael Israel as its new vice chancellor for health affairs and chief executive officer of Duke University Hospital and Health Network. Israel, 42, replaces Mark Rogers, M.D., who resigned in May to accept a senior executive position at Perkin-Elmer Corp., a Norwalk, Conn.-based biotechnology instrument maker. Israel was chief operating officer of the 1,124-bed teaching hospital.
