Quorum Health Group has acquired Jacksonville (Ala.) Hospital. The 89-bed hospital, which was owned by the city, has been managed by Brentwood, Tenn.-based Quorum for 10 years. Terms weren't disclosed. Quorum owns 14 hospitals and manages another 250 in four states.
Health Management Associates, Naples, Fla., completed the purchase of 208-bed Midwest City (Okla.) Regional Hospital. Terms weren't disclosed. The hospital serves three counties with about 140,000 residents. HMA now owns 25 hospitals in 11 states.
New American Healthcare Corp. signed an agreement to purchase its first hospital, Doctors Hospital-Wentzville (Mo.). Terms weren't disclosed, but the deal is expected to be completed by the end of July. Venture-capital-backed New American also said it expects to close on a revolving credit facility of $75 million or more with a group of U.S. and foreign banks in August. New American focuses on rural and suburban hospitals. Doctors is a 94-bed hospital in rural Missouri bordering the outer suburbs of St. Louis, which is about 40 miles away. Jack Bailey, Doctors' president and chief executive officer, said New American officials contacted him about buying the hospital. Bailey is general partner for a group of physicians and other investors that bought the hospital in 1991.
Behavioral Healthcare Corp. completed the purchase of four mental health hospitals and one residential treatment center from Mental Health Management, McLean, Va., for $10 million. The facilities are Windsor Hospital, Chagrin Falls, Ohio; Aspen Hill Hospital, Flagstaff, Ariz.; Pacific Shores Hospital, Oxnard, Calif.; Pinon Hills Hospital, Santa Fe, N.M.; and Pinon Hills Residential Treatment Center, Velarde, N.M. Nashville, Tenn.-based Behavioral now operates 14 psychiatric facilities in six states.
Physician Reliance Network has entered into a long-term management services agreement with Capital District Oncology, a seven-physician group near Albany, N.Y. The Dallas-based company said it intends to build a full-service oncology network in New York state. PRN manages the practices of 237 physicians in cancer care in eight states and operates 16 cancer centers in Texas and New Mexico.
