In light of the Outliers report about my remarks at an American Bar Association conference (May 13, p. 52), I must restate my intended message and clarify Tenet's position on the issues. My intent was to focus attention on the need to diligently comply with evolving healthcare laws and, further, to illustrate the perils of noncompliance.
At Tenet, we are proud of our compliance program and view it as an important business tool. It helps ensure integrity in our business practices and prevents violations in an era of rapidly changing healthcare law. We regard ethics and quality of care as inseparable, and we hold integrity and honesty as our most important principles.
