The boards of Adventist Health System/West, based in Roseville, Calif., and Fresno-based Community Hospitals of Central California have voted to negotiate a partnership.
Both organizations said they are not moving toward a merger, acquisition or sale. Rather, they said in a written statement that they will develop "organizationwide" information management, tools for tracking and ensuring quality outcomes, a combined purchasing process and a "payer relationship model" to link providers and payers.
Adventist, with networks that span five Western states, has 12 California hospitals, three of which, with a total of 375 beds, would be included in the partnership. Community Hospitals of Central California has two hospitals with a total of 548 beds, three long-term-care facilities and other facilities.
