A stock index that tracks investment performance in the healthcare information system sector rose 18.6% in the first two months of 1996, compared with 3.9% for the Standard and Poor's 500 during the same period.
The information system index, compiled by New York-based Punk, Ziegel & Knoell, a specialty investment banking firm, began tracking 28 publicly traded companies in 1995 and issued its first year-end report in January (Feb. 5, p. 30).
It has since expanded to 30, adding IDX Systems Corp. of Burlington, Vt., which went public in November 1995, and Mecon of San Ramon, Calif., which went public in December 1995.
Among notable gains during January and February, Imnet Systems was up 34.4% and HBO & Co. was up 29.2%, according to the most recent index report. Both companies are based in Atlanta.
