FORT WORTH, Texas-Three local hospices, Community Hospice of St. Joseph, Huguley Hospice Care and Harris Hospice, have signed a letter of intent to merge under the name Community Hospice of Texas. Community Hospice was part of St. Joseph Hospital, which was previously sold to Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp. The hospice was not part of the transaction, however. Harris Hospice is owned by Harris Methodist Health System, and Huguley Hospice is owned by Huguley Memorial Medical Center. In addition, Arlington (Texas) Memorial Hospital, which doesn't own a local hospice, has agreed to provide financial support and serve on the merged organization's board.
OKLAHOMA CITY-St. Anthony Hospital and Hillcrest Health Center signed a memorandum of understanding to merge, culminating discussions that began in mid-1994. St. Anthony, a 247-bed hospital, is part of SSM Health Care System, St. Louis. Hillcrest is a 186-bed, not-for-profit osteopathic hospital. Last year, the two hospitals developed joint programs in behavioral health services, emergency surgery and professional education.
