CLEVELAND-The emergency medicine departments of Cleveland Clinic and MetroHealth System will share leadership starting March 1. Charles L. Emerman, M.D., chairman of MetroHealth's department of emergency medicine, will become direc tor of Cleveland Clinic's emergency services, dividing his time between the facilities. It's the first major clinical link established as part of a medical partnership forged in April 1995 by the clinic and MetroHealth, which is ow ned by Cuyahoga County, Ohio. The agreement will allow the departments to share clinical knowledge and develop common protocols, with future possibilities for sharing staff and expenses and expanding MetroHealth's residency program to the clinic, a MetroHealth spokesman said. Last fall MetroHealth received the highest levels of accreditation from the American College of Surgeons for its adult and pediatric trauma services and from the American Burn Associati on for its burn center. Its emergency department treated more than 60,000 patients in 1995, and the clinic saw more than 34,000 emergency cases.
