Sister Irene Kraus was one of the mainstays of the Health Care Hall of Fame judging panel. This year, however, she was left off the list.
But the omission was for a good reason. Kraus was nominated and later selected as an inductee, and we couldn't be happier.
That left the judging to this distinguished panel:
George Caldwell, healthcare consultant and former president of Lutheran General HealthSystem, Park Ridge, Ill.
H. Robert Cathcart, healthcare consultant and former president of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, home of the Health Care Hall of Fame.
Richard Clarke, president of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, Westchester, Ill.
Carolyne Davis, senior consultant at Ernst & Young, Washington.
Thomas C. Dolan, president of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Chicago.
Charles S. Lauer, publisher of MODERN HEALTHCARE and corporate vice president of its parent company, Crain Communications, Chicago.
Dennis D. Pointer, the John J. Hanlon professor of health services and public policy at the San Diego State University graduate school of public health.
Elliott C. Roberts, professor at the Louisiana State University medical school, New Orleans.
MODERN HEALTHCARE staff members Joan Fitzgerald, Jay Greene, Bruce Japsen, Kelly Shriver and Charlotte Snow wrote the profiles of the winners. Keith Horist and Kevin McConkey designed the special section.
