ATLANTA-Egleston Children's Health Care System has become the first hospital-based system in Georgia to operate an HMO in preparation for the state's expansion of its Medicaid managed-care program. Egleston's FamilyPlus Health Plan s of Georgia primarily will enroll Medicaid recipients in the Atlanta area, but it also will enroll a small percentage of commercial patients, said Michael Brohm, the system's senior vice president and chief financial officer. Egle ston is an integrated pediatric healthcare system that operates 196-bed Egleston Children's Hospital on the campus of Emory University, a pediatric home-care agency and a network of primary-care clinics. This month Medicaid recipie nts in the five-county Atlanta area will have a choice of joining an HMO or selecting a primary-care physician.
