The Maricopa County (Ariz.) Board of Supervisors named S.K. Ching & Associates the finalist in its search for an outside party to run the county healthcare system.
As anticipated, S.K. Ching will be the only bidder to enter into several weeks of financial negotiations with the county. Details of the Calabasas, Calif.-based consulting firm's proposal will not be released until an agreement has been reached.
Earlier, a joint bid from Samaritan Health System and Mercy Healthcare Arizona and a proposal from OrNda HealthCorp were eliminated from the competition (Dec. 11, 1995, p. 30).
The county is seeking to transfer ownership of its money-losing county health system, which is expected to post an $18 million deficit this year, to the private sector. The system includes Phoenix-based Maricopa Medical Center, 13 clinics, four health plans and several other properties.
