The selection of Reginald Ballantyne as the next chairman-elect of the American Hospital Association board of trustees was formally announced last week at the AHA annual meeting in San Francisco.
Ballantyne, president and chief executive officer of PMH Health Resources, Phoenix, begins his term as chairman-elect in January. His one-year term as chairman starts in 1997.
In addition, six people were named to four-year terms on the 26-member board.
Donald Berwick, M.D., president and CEO of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, Boston, became the association's first independent trustee.
New at-large trustees are Victor Campbell, senior vice president of Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp., Nashville, Tenn.; Tina Castaneres, M.D., a practicing physician and consultant with Hood River (Ore.) Memorial Hospital; and Ruth Rothstein, director of Cook County Hospital in Chicago.
Chris Barnette, executive vice president and chief operating officer of General Health System in Baton Rouge, La., and Gary Mecklenburg, president and CEO of Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, were named as regional trustees.
