Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp. edged into the Rhode Island hospital market last week, when it agreed to acquire not-for-profit Landmark Health System, Woonsocket.
Terms were not disclosed, but officials said $20 million in proceeds from the sale would go to Landmark Health Foundation. In addition, the hospital has $25 million in long-term debt.
The deal includes 295-bed Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket, and a 50% interest in 82-bed Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island in North Smithfield.
Nashville, Tenn.-based Columbia owns 323 hospitals and more than 100 outpatient surgery centers in 36 states and two countries. Two of the surgery centers are in Rhode Island.
In an unrelated development, Columbia completed the purchase of JFK Medical Center, Atlantis, Fla., for $210 million. The deal is the largest single hospital purchase by Columbia.
