Management Compensation Services and Hewitt Associates are delighted with the June 26 article "Raises slow to a trickle" (p. 47). We have received many favorable comments and requests for additional information. We also have received questions about some of the data.
In particular, the article refers to actual 1994 and projected 1995 increases for salaried exempt employees in healthcare and other industries. For example, the 1995 projected increases identified for healthcare, services and all companies are, respectively, 2.3%, 2.6% and 2.8%. As a point of clarification, these percentages refer to estimated salary range adjustments. A salary range is intended to reflect market pay conditions for a particular job or job group. The ranges are adjusted regularly to account for market pay changes. The comparable percentages for projected 1995 base salary changes are 3.7%, 4% and 4%, respectively.
