Sheldon S. King has been named interim director of University of California at Los Angeles Medical Center.
King, 63, will take a leave of absence from his position as executive vice president of Salick Health Care while a medical center committee completes its search for a successor to Raymond G. Schultze.
"UCLA and Salick will take advantage of their relationship to explore areas of possible collaboration," Los Angeles-based Salick said in a written statement.
Schultze, who has been director of UCLA Medical Center for 15 years, will step down Sept. 1.
King previously has served as director of University of California San Diego Medical Center, president of Stanford (Calif.) University Hospital and president of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
King will continue his responsibilities in strategic development at Salick.
