Your April 17 cover story, "Looking for hanky-panky in partnerships" (p. 26), suggests that hospitals are initiating partnerships to "avoid detection" of possible violations in antitrust law.
I don't know whether any hospital has adopted that strategy, which is likely to be unavailing in any event. I do know that the transaction involving St. Joseph's Hospital and Memorial Mission Medical Center in Asheville, N.C.-the first partnership discussed in your article-plainly did not involve any attempt to avoid scrutiny by federal antitrust agencies.
