In what the parties describe as the largest healthcare food contract ever awarded, BJC Health System has hired the healthcare division of Morrison Restaurants to provide food and nutrition services. A Morrison spokesman said the contract was worth $35 million to $40 million a year.
Based in St. Louis, BJC comprises 39 member and affiliated hospitals and seven long-term-care facilities in Missouri and Illinois. Morrison will operate 24 BJC units under the five-year contract.
Morrison will sell branded foods such as Dunkin' Donuts and rotisserie chicken. It will serve patients' dietary needs as well as providing retail food for employees and hospital visitors.
Morrison's healthcare division has more than 300 clients ranging from smaller specialty hospitals to medical centers with more than 2,000 beds.
