West Jersey Health System, Camden, N.J., has signed a letter of intent to join Healthshare Group, a regional, integrated healthcare partnership being developed by Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and Main Line Health System in Radnor, Pa. (April 18, 1994, p. 20).
Healthshare Group will be a separate, not-for-profit organization designed to implement a comprehensive regional healthcare system.
Main Line President Douglas S. Peters said the organization should be in place within two to four months.
With the addition of West Jersey Health System's four acute-care hospitals and 1,016 physicians, the partnership will represent nine hospitals, 2,687 licensed beds and an active medical staff of 3,021.
Meanwhile, talks with other potential partners, such as U.S. Healthcare, a Blue Bell, Pa.-based HMO, and Independence Blue Cross, a Philadelphia-based insurer, have been "very positive," Peters said.
