Surgical Care Affiliates has signed a letter of intent with St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., to operate its ambulatory surgery services.
Financial terms of the agreement weren't released.
Hospital executives said the move will allow St. Thomas to meet growing demands for outpatient surgery in a cost-efficient manner.
St. Thomas, a 571-bed acute- and primary-care hospital, is a member of the Daughters of Charity National Health System.
SCA Chairman Joel Gordon said the company plans eventually to integrate the hospital's outpatient surgery center with its Nashville Surgery Center in a future venture. Nashville-based SCA is the nation's second-largest operator of outpatient surgery services, running 65 centers in 22 states.
