DES MOINES, Iowa-Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa has completed agreements with healthcare provider organizations representing 26 Iowa hospitals for a statewide insurance product called Integrated Health Delivery. Industry observers have said the effort is the Iowa Blues' attempt to be first in marketing an insurance product statewide (June 20, p. 24). Led by the Iowa Health System, Mercy Health Services and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, the system combines delivery, financing and management of healthcare in one organization. The physicians, hospitals and the insurer share financial responsibilities of healthcare delivery and risk management.
