Charlotte County in Florida last month awarded a three-year, $6.75 million preferred provider contract to Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp. for its 1,350 employees, said Reynold DeArriba, the county's insurance and risk manager. It also uses First Benefits of Florida, Tampa, as its third-party administrator. A story on the contract (Oct. 31, p. 20) erroneously reported the value of the contract, the number of employees and the third-party administrator. The maximum amount of the contract to Columbia/HCA would total $8.7 million if all Charlotte County employees used Columbia/HCA's hospital and physician network during the three-year period, Mr. DeArriba said.
A story on research predicting an oversupply of physicians (Oct. 3, p. 72) incorrectly identified the magazine that published the findings. The article appeared in the July 20 issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association>
