Quorum Health Group last week agreed to buy 424-bed Carolinas Hospital System in Florence, S.C.
The price wasn't disclosed. However, the acquisition would be Quorum's largest hospital system in a single location.
Carolinas was formed earlier this year through the merger of Bruce Hospital System and Florence General Hospital (March 21, p. 33). Nashville, Tenn.-based Quorum, which owns 11 hospitals and manages 256, has provided consulting services to Bruce Hospital since 1986. The not-for-profit system includes a 20-bed women's hospital, a 46-bed substance-abuse treatment facility and a 44-bed skilled-nursing facility as well as the two hospitals.
The deal is expected to be completed by the end of January 1995.
