Riverside Hospital in Toledo, Ohio, has rejected an undisclosed settlement offer from the city and its healthcare bargaining agent, the Cooperative Health Network, in a lawsuit filed by the hospital in June.
"It was not, in our estimation, a serious offer," said Scott Shook, Riverside's president and chief executive officer as of Sept. 1.
A trial set for this month was rescheduled for Dec. 21.
In the suit, Riverside alleged unfair bidding practices by the city's health plan, which excludes the 271-bed hospital (June 27, p. 66). Riverside and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Ohio in Cleveland have agreed to a joint venture that would provide health insurance, hospital care and a full range of medical services.
