PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla.-MedPartners, a medical practice management company based in Birmingham, Ala., has acquired the assets of the Palm Beach Neurological Group and the primary-care practice of Jack I. Newcomer, M.D., both in Palm Beach County. Palm Beach Neurological, with its 13 physicians, is the county's largest neuroscience group practice, a MedPartners spokesman said. MedPartners now owns 13 and manages 14 primary-care and specialty group practices in six states.
ATLANTA-The Morgan Health Group has signed a contract to provide physician and hospital services on a capitated basis to MetLife Healthcare Network of Georgia, said Donald Hutton, Morgan's chairman and chief executive officer. Under the contract, Morgan has agreed to provide physicians and hospital care for a managed-care product MetLife plans to market, he said. Morgan, which was formed 18 months ago, also has signed three letters of intent to contract with other insurance companies. Morgan has a network of 125 primary-care physicians, 400 specialists and 12 hospitals, said Mr. Hutton, who previously was president and CEO of Northside Hospital in Atlanta.
ATLANTA-Delta Air Lines has selected Cigna HealthCare of Georgia and Emory University System of Health Care to operate its new primary-care center near Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport. Cigna and Emory were selected over 25 competing health plans and hospitals (Sept. 20, 1993, p. 16). Emory recently signed a letter of intent to enter into a partnership with Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp. and its eight Atlanta-area hospitals (May 30, p. 10). Earlier this year, Atlanta-based Delta also chose Cigna to provide medical benefits in preferred provider networks to its 74,000 employees in 16 cities. The 36,000-square-foot Delta healthcare center, which is expected to begin operations in mid-1995, will offer primary-care, urgent-care and occupational medicine services for Delta personnel and their families. Delta employs more than 22,000 workers in Atlanta.
