Time is the greatest obstacle facing Congress as it works to complete healthcare reform this year. If lawmakers stick to their schedule, they have less than four weeks remaining.
Of course, healthcare reform is not the only item on the congressional agenda. Items lawmakers have pledged to tackle include the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade; several spending bills, including those for HHS and the Department of Defense; campaign finance reform; telecommunications reform; and the reauthorization of the Superfund toxic waste cleanup program.
And that list doesn't even take into account the possibility of threatened military intervention in Haiti.
