PHOENIX, Ariz.-Representatives from more than a dozen Arizona businesses, healthcare and taxpayer groups recently criticized President Clinton's healthcare reform proposal. The groups-which included the National Federation of Independent Business/Arizona, the Lincoln Caucus, the Arizona Restaurant Association, the Health Care Choice Coalition and the Arizona Farm Bureau-also announced the formation of the "I Promise America" campaign. The campaign was created to reflect the groups' position on healthcare reform and to voice its disapproval of the Clinton plan, executives said. The groups are asking local politicians to sign a pledge declaring their positions on healthcare reform. The pledge calls for politicians to vote against any healthcare legislation that: mandates costs onto business or individuals, rations healthcare or establishes price controls, increases taxes, and restricts or limits choices for consumers. The coalition couldn't estimate which or how many Arizona politicians are expected to sign the pledge.
CARSON CITY, Nev.-Carson-Tahoe Hospital broke ground this month on a $5 million medical office building in an industrial park outside of the city, hospital executives said. The 39,000-square-foot building will house an ambulatory surgery center, primary-care and family-practice physicians offices, an urgent-care center, and X-ray and other ancillary services. The medical office building is part of the hospital's attempt to offer one-stop shopping on an outpatient basis for local residents as well as patients in outlying rural areas, a hospital spokesman said. An outpatient pharmacy, a community meeting room and additional physician offices will be added in the near future.
