The article "Long-term hospitals do well, but face challenges" (March 28, p. 43) contains a false statement concerning American Transitional Hospitals.
The assertion that ATH's operations are under close scrutiny by HCFA is absolutely untrue. ATH hospitals receive the same scrutiny as those of our competition.
We have opened four freestanding hospitals within acute-care hospitals in the last 10 months, the latest in February in Tulsa. Each of the four received its state hospital license, Medicare certification and accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations on the first visits by these review bodies.
We plan to continue opening hospitals every three to four months and receiving these same reviews and approvals.
