The board of 44-bed District Memorial Hospital, Forest Lake, Minn., voted last week to negotiate an affiliation with Fairview Health System, Minneapolis.
Chisago Health Services, Chisago City, Minn., also took another step toward merging with Fairview when its board voted to recommend the deal to its parent board. This week, Chisago's 30 corporate members-21 employed physicians plus nine elected members of the hospital's parent board-are expected to give final approval (Jan. 31, p. 8).
Under its agreement, Chisago would become a wholly owned subsidiary of Fairview. With the two hospitals, Fairview would operate six hospitals with 1,550 beds in the Twin Cities area.
Chisago operates 44 medical-surgical beds, a 40-bed nursing home unit and three physician clinics.
