BELLEVUE, Wash.-Mark Judy has stepped down as president and chief executive officer of 179-bed General Hospital Medical Center in Everett, Wash., to join 257-bed Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue this week as interim president and chief executive officer. Bellevue is about 15 miles east of Seattle. A search committee of Overlake board members has been named to conduct a national search for a permanent top executive to fill the post left vacant by the resignation two weeks ago of Sanderson J. Jeghers, 48, who stepped down to "pursue other business interests in healthcare," the hospital said. He had served as CEO since 1983. Mr. Judy, 46, left General Hospital two weeks ago after serving 10 years in the top job; he's credited with initiating and completing last month's merger of General Hospital and 188-bed Providence Hospital in Everett. The board of the newly created Providence General Medical Center passed over the top administrators of both those facilities for when they filled the executive slot of the merged organization.

The Women's and Children's Hospital also offers pediatric emergency and intensive-care services. Officials have yet to decide whether the closed pediatric department will be restored or razed.
