Quorum Health Resources has awarded a three-year, $200 million contract to Baxter International.
Under the agreement, Deerfield, Ill.-based Baxter will supply Quorum hospitals with a variety of surgical supplies, such as custom procedure kits, and respiratory and anesthesia products. The contract expands Baxter's previous business with Quorum.
The management company and its parent, Quorum Health Group, both based in Brentwood, Tenn., operate 271 hospitals. Its 1989 contract with Baxter is one of three Baxter contracts that reportedly are under federal review for possible violations of anti-kickback laws. Baxter has said that the contracts are legal and represent common practice in the industry (Feb. 21, p. 10).
