CHARLOTTE, N.C.-Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte has agreed to acquire the Kouri Medical Clinic, a local five-member group practice of family practitioners, and add the clinic's physicians to the roster of the 590-bed hospital's physician-hospital organization. Under terms of the tentative agreement, the hospital will purchase the assets of the clinic, and the physicians will become employees of the PHO. The acquisition price wasn't disclosed. With the addition of the five family practitioners, the PHO-Presbyterian Healthcare Associates Corp.-will have 39 physicians. The hospital expects to complete the Kouri acquisition by the end of the month.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-Dana Hensley has been appointed president and chief operating officer of Baptist Health Systems' two flagship hospitals here. Mr. Hensley, 40, will oversee 524-bed Princeton Baptist Medical Center and 534-bed Montclair Baptist Medical Center. Executives said the appointment will help aid integration of the hospitals, which are located on opposite sides of the city. Mr. Hensley has been president of Princeton Baptist. He was promoted by Dennis Hall, who succeeded Emmett Johnson last year as BHS' president. BHS is Alabama's largest system, operating nine hospitals with a total of 2,003 beds.
LOUISVILLE, Ky.-The governing board of the Southeastern Group, better known as Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kentucky, has elected Stephen Bow as its new chairman. Mr. Bow also will continue to serve as the plan's chief executive officer. He's been president and CEO since 1989. Taking over the president's post and continuing his role as the plan's chief operating officer is James Murphy. The plan, which merged with Indiana Blue Cross and Blue Shield last July, had total assets of $532 million in 1992.
BALTIMORE-In honor of Good Samaritan Hospital's 25th anniversary, the Baltimore hospital has donated $1.5 million to the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine to establish a chair in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Barbara de Lateur, M.D., was selected to fill the position beginning in January. She currently teaches at the University of Washington in Seattle.
