A public-policy specialist for a giant public relations and lobbying firm is joining the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations this week as vice president for marketing and external relations.
The public relations firm, Burson-Marsteller, has been under contract to the Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.-based Joint Commission since August. The new commission exec utive, John B. Laing, 44, had been primarily responsible for Burson-Marstell er's Joint Com mission account, said Harlan Teller, general manager of Bur son-Marsteller's Chicago office.
Mr. Laing will be responsible for communications, development, marketing, customer service and government relations, said commission spokesman Stephen L. Davidow. As a Burson-Marsteller vice president, Mr. Laing specialized in public affairs and public policy, said Mr. Teller.
Mr. Davidow said the firm was hired to direct "strategic public relations" on behalf of the Joint Commission. He declined to give payment terms, saying the information was "proprietary."
