Modern Healthcare has been honoring the industry’s women leaders for nearly two decades. During that time, the program has featured members of the C-suite at hospitals, health systems and insurance companies, elected officials, association executives and startup founders.

This year, for the first time, none of our Women Leaders are repeat honorees. It’s a testament to the depth of talent in healthcare. Modern Healthcare will also announce a Vanguard in the coming months, a woman honored for her overall career achievements as well as how she has helped blaze a trail for other women.

From revolutionizing staffing strategies and streamlining supply chains to spearheading equity-focused programs and launching new technologies, the honorees profiled on the following pages have made a lasting impact on their organizations and on the healthcare sector—while paving the way for those just getting started.

Andrea Willis, MD, MPH, FAAP

Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee

Willis works to ensure the company’s clinical initiatives and quality endeavors support member and community needs. Her duties include the annual Health Equity Report, which uses data from publicly available sources to show how social factors impact well-being. According to the company, the initiative improved provider quality scores by 27% in its first year. Willis also mentors younger female executives through the company’s Minority Mentor Program and participates in its Women’s Leadership Group.
