The COVID-19 pandemic is unlike anything most Americans can recall in their lifetimes. Despite virus containment and financial relief efforts, its far-reaching impacts have disrupted our healthcare system – particularly in the area of drastically decreased facility-based volumes.

What can you do to accelerate the “recovery” and stimulate growth? Utilizing deep, sophisticated data, we will explore what changed for emergency medicine and urgent care practices and operations during COVID-19, predict what leaders can expect in terms of recovery in volume and discuss how to evolve and adapt for the rest of 2020 and into 2021.

Key takeaways include short- and long-term strategies for regaining lost volumes and revenue, such as:

    • Addressing community concerns to rebuild trust in your hospital
    • Strengthening patient loyalty
    • Forecasting growth for the future
    • Leveraging technology differently
    • Mitigating staffing challenges

    Panelists:

    Stephen Nichols, MD
    Chief Clinical Technology Officer
    SCP Health

Dr. Stephen Nichols is a pragmatic realist when it comes to operational improvements. He has over 25 years of experience in Emergency Medicine and has been a staff physician in the Emergency Department in Brownwood, Texas, for over two decades. His work for SCP Health focuses on helping facilities and systems with various operational and service challenges by integrating services in effective and efficient ways, while maintaining the focus on the people we care for — patients and clinicians.

Dr. Nichols applies his down-to-earth style with a methodical approach to management that balances patient care, provider expectations, business goals, and healthcare demands. His fundamental goal is to help hospitals create places where employees enjoy working together and want to bring their families when they need care, by combining experiences reported at the facility with detailed data analytics.

    Randy Pilgrim, MD, FACEP
    Enterprise Chief Medical Officer
    SCP Health

Dr. Randy Pilgrim provides executive oversight and direction for SCP Health’s medical and clinical operations across all service lines. He is responsible for empowering and creating sustainable systems that deliver clinical excellence, minimize risk, and produce key results for patients.

Dr. Pilgrim completed medical school and residency at the University of Minnesota. He has been in Emergency Medicine practice and leadership roles for over 25 years.  His prior actuarial background provides unique analytical and business perspectives that balance patient care demands, physicians’ needs, and key business considerations. Dr. Pilgrim is regularly involved with health policy issues at state and national levels and continues to advise the evolving role of Emergency Medicine in health care delivery systems of the future.

    Lisa Fry
    Chief Growth Officer
    SCP Health

Lisa Fry has nearly 25 years of experience in the healthcare and health management industry. She began her career in the insurance industry and transitioned into management consulting at KPMG LLP in the National Healthcare Strategy Practice. Following KPMG, she held executive management roles for 12 years at Kaiser Permanente. She is also a member of the founding executive team of Avivia Health and led the sales function for the health plan line of business for WebMD Health Services.

At SCP Health, Fry is accountable for overall growth strategy, and development and articulation of SCP’s Value Positioning. She is responsible for all new hospital client relationships and leads the launch and operations of new service innovations for the company. Throughout her career, Fry’s primary areas of focus have been on driving revenue growth for client organizations and supporting clients in combining financial and clinical data with population-based health information to create superior health outcomes and return on investment.
