A little discussed aspect of the Dr. Donald Berwick era at the CMS was the view of some healthcare provider advocates that the soon-to-depart administrator was not that great at the administrating part of his job. That is, Berwick was exceptional at developing big-picture, inspirational approaches to overhauling healthcare delivery and payment models, but he was relatively weak at the hum-drum task of shepherding rules through the regulatory process.

If he's elected president, Herman Cain wants to sign legislation to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act—and he has a specific date in mind to do it, too.
“I am 100% behind and will sign legislation as soon as it hits my desk to repeal Obamacare in its entirety because it is a disaster,” Cain said in his remarks Wednesday to the Congressional Health Care Caucus, which hosted the Republican presidential hopeful as part of the group's “Thought Leaders” series. “And if Congress moves fast enough—hint, hint, hint—to get me to repeal legislation,” Cain continued, “I plan to sign the repeal on March 23, 2013 because it was on March 23, 2010 that President Obama signed that disastrous legislation into law.”

Dr. Howard Koh got to channel his inner Sally Field this week. Speaking on Monday to senior public health officials from across the country, Koh, assistant secretary for Health at HHS, heaped praise on his audience and colleagues and got a little love in return.
The former commissioner of public health for Massachusetts warmed attendees at the annual meeting of the American Public Health Association by reflecting “This is my meeting and you are my people.”
