This is intriguing.
Deep in the weeds of the new proposed federal rule for the testing and certification of electronic health-record systems is a call for public comment on whether it would "prudent" of the federal government to focus on an effort to develop a procedure for certifying health information technology systems for organizations that can't receive IT subsidies or be penalized under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

There's been a running dialogue on the Listserv of the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems of Information Systems since last week when CMS acting Administrator Marilyn Tavenner disclosed that the federal government was getting cold feet about its Oct. 1, 2013 deadline for the federally mandated nationwide implementation of ICD-10.
