Ambassador Randall Tobias, U.S. global AIDS coordinator, has been selected as an honorary fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Larry Sanders, recipient of the American College of Healthcare Executives' 2006 Gold Medal Award, got an early start in healthcare by working in a hospital 40 hours a week as a high school student. Garth Pierce

Garth Pierce was more than pleasantly surprised when he was named recipient of the American College of Healthcare Executives' Lifetime Service Award. "I didn't even think my name would be mentioned for the award," says Pierce, who is now retired. Pierce began as a student associate of the ACHE in 1966, and became an ACHE Life Fellow while an international affiliate of the college, which he has been for the past 40 years.

Dan Jones Jr., recipient of the American College of Healthcare Executives' 2006 Robert S. Hudgens Memorial Award for young healthcare executive of the year, says he always knew he had an affinity for the healthcare business. Jones, 36, chief executive officer of 213-bed Independence (Mo.) Regional Health Center, and 123-bed Medical Center of Independence, grew up in a healthcare-oriented family with a pharmacist father.
