Surescripts, an electronic prescription and clinical technology network, has named Tom Skelton CEO.

Skelton will start Aug. 25. He has several years of executive experience in the healthcare technology sector, most recently working with Foundation Radiology Group and Med3000.

Surescripts, based in Arlington, Va., connects pharmacies, providers and other healthcare players mostly with e-prescribing. Last August, it added 19 health information exchanges to its growing national network.

“Surescripts is at a critical point in its growth, so Tom will play a key role as we continue to perfect e-prescribing and expand our clinical network to create a comprehensive, unified healthcare system that improves care outcomes, increases efficiency and decreases costs,” Surescripts board co-chairman Douglas Hoey said in a statement.

Skelton replaces Harry Totonis, who resigned in March.
