Cushing tapped as Temple University Hospital's medical chief

Dr. Herbert Cushing has been named chief medical officer of Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, effective Aug. 18.

Cushing, 57, serves as the lead physician executive for the 728-bed hospital, which is the academic flagship of Temple University Health System.

Previously, he was the CMO of Indiana University Health's University Hospital in Indianapolis and the associate dean of student affairs at the IU School of Medicine. He also was the medical director for IU Health Physicians, one of the largest physician groups in Indiana. While at IU, Cushing focused on several health information technology projects, including the organization's electronic health-record system and physician order-entry system.

Cushing is board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases.
