In a further indication that patient-generated health information is a hot growth area, the Consumer Electronics Association, a trade group for the consumer-electronics industry, has launched a health and fitness technology division.
“Technology innovations now offer unprecedented opportunities for consumers to take control of their health and engage in their personal fitness,” said CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro, in a release
announcing the new division.
The new unit, which started as a health and fitness technology working group in 2010, “brings together a group of proven leaders in the space to further raise awareness that these products can help us change our lives for the better,” Shapiro said.
In January, the association released a report, “ The Connected Health and Wellness Market
,” that projected a 142% increase in sales of personal health and wellness products, software and services over the next five years. Follow Joseph Conn on Twitter: @MHJConn
